Synopsis

“A rock star doesn’t return to his humble beginnings and whisk away the girl he kissed once. Especially if she has a four year old and her relationship status is ‘it’s complicated’.”

Blue Phoenix bass player, Liam Oliver discovers pictures of his fiancée with another man and his world crashes around him. He packs up his humiliation and hurt and flies back to his Welsh family home for Christmas.

Cerys Edwards once had pictures of Liam Oliver covering her bedroom wall. Her best friend’s big brother never gave her the time of day when they were growing up. When she was fifteen, he left town leaving Cerys with her fantasies. Now he’s back. The problem is, she has a daughter and a broken relationship of her own.

In the world of his Christmas past, Cerys and Liam reconnect. Are they two hurt people looking for comfort in a time of heartbreak or does Cerys have a place in Liam’s future too?

Months later and unplugged from his Blue Phoenix lifestyle, Liam reconnects with Cerys. He discovers Cerys’s world is full of complications he never expected – including Ella’s father who isn’t happy about being replaced by a rock star.

Unplugged is more than a rock star romance. Liam isn’t dark and brooding like Dylan, or a bad boy like Jem but a fiercely loyal man with a big heart. This is a story of love, family and unexpected bonds made that can’t be broken.

This is book three of the Blue Phoenix series. It can be read as a standalone but has minor spoilers for books one and two.

Extract

Our faces touch, his rough cheek against my forehead, and I know if I move my head a few centimetres, our mouths will meet and our worlds will shift.

“Is kissing you still wrong?” I ask.

“Your lips are meant to be on mine.” He moves his face. The static charge of our mouths so close and the snow drifting onto our bodies drag us into a surreal world. The shift happens. I slide my cheek along his, the stubble scratching my skin as my lips meet the edge of his.

The world is covered in white, hidden from reality; a reality that I hate currently. I can escape for an evening, maybe a few days, and allow his blizzard to overwhelm me. If life is the same struggle when everything melts away again, a few moments lost in a fantasy after months of feeling worthless are what I need and worth the consequences.

Liam digs his hand into my hair and crashes his mouth against mine. I gasp in surprise at the force as he delves his tongue into my mouth, sliding against mine. When Liam kissed me in the bedroom the other day, there was a tension in him where he held back part of himself. Was this because Liam knew I did too? This time the world falls away completely as we kiss frantically, noses bumping as he pulls me into the snowstorm that is Liam Oliver.

Liam moves to kiss my cheeks, a delicious scrape against my skin as his hot lips burn into my cool neck. He slides a hand around my waist, beneath my coat and holds me against him. Convinced my legs are going to give way and cursing the lack of walls for Liam to press me against, I grip his sleeve.

Liam nudges his nose back across my face, hot breath mingling with mine and misting in the air. “Definitely feels right,” he whispers.

Then Liam kisses me so gently that he takes my soul and pulls it apart. My head spins as the intensity of the slow kiss fills me with a craving for this man that will never be satiated. This is more than feeling right, this is our hearts open and raw finding their way together.

Which means when they’re torn apart again the pain will kill me.

The heat we create counteracts the falling temperature around us but the cold of reality isn’t far. I pull my face away; I need to pull myself out of this.

Fall Into Fantasy Week 1: The Darkness & Light Series ~ K L Schwengel

Welcome to the Fall Into Fantasy Tour, where we are keeping your mind off any end-of-summer blues and welcoming the cooler weather by introducing you to some incredible fantasy reads to curl up with and giving you plenty of chances to win awesome prizes!

Week 1: The Darkness & Light Series

Book One: First of Her Kind

Book Two: Emergence

Book Three: Edge of Darkness (Release date 2015)

It seems everyone wants to dictate what Ciara does with her life: Serve the Goddess, destroy the Goddess, do as you promised your aunt — all Ciara really wants is to keep the two magics she possesses from ripping her apart.

And that’s not going to be easy.

Not only is her earth magic in complete opposition to her other power, blood ties pull her in divergent directions as well. And then there’s Bolin, the man sworn to protect her. There’s no denying the growing attraction between them, but is it Ciara he wants, or her power?

None of which will matter if Ciara can’t overcome her fear and learn how to use her gifts. No one knows the depths of the ancient power she possesses, or what will happen if it manages to escape her control. Will she lose herself entirely? Or be forever caught between Darkness and Light?

Buy the e-book: Kindle Nook

Or the paperback: Amazon  Barnes & Noble

The battle for Ciara’s power has drawn the full attention of the Emperor and the Imperial Mages, forcing Bolin to put duty above safety and take her to Nisair. It won’t be an easy trip, even with an Imperial escort and a Galysian elder accompanying them. Especially since Donovan has found himself some new allies, one of who wields a dark magic that has literally gotten under Bolin’s skin.

For Ciara, coming to terms with the increasingly tangible manifestation of her power could destroy her. Even if they make it to Nisair–something that grows more unlikely by the day–there is no surety of safety for Ciara, or any of them. Not with Donovan willing to gamble everything to achieve his goals, or Bolin’s uncharacteristically reckless behavior, the result of which is the attention of something that has everyone worried.

Loyalties will be tested, lives will be lost, and no one will emerge unchanged as they find things are not always so clear on the line dividing Darkness and Light.

What do you do when two very different men enter your world and both have the power to kill you with a touch or a kiss? Can Rose trust either of them – or anyone in her new life after the accident which almost killed her?

Ghosts? Demons? Angels? Or something more? The supernatural you find living and working in this English city are a little different to those you usually find in the genre…

Rose survived the accident which killed her friend. The problem is the life she returns to scares her more than the night she almost died.

When Alek and Finn enter her world, Rose discovers the after-effects of the accident are worse than she thought. The slow recovery and fogged nightmares aren’t the only changes she needs to cope with.

Rose has an immediate and intense attraction to arrogant housemate Alek. This confuses her as much as the chilling effect of her mysterious work colleague Finn. As Rose struggles to cope with her new life, she learns that her connection to the two men threatens all their futures

Alek has lived years closed off from people. He didn’t expect someone like Rose to come into his life and challenge the reality he grips onto.

If Finn doesn’t fix the mistake he made, his life is in danger. His desire to help and protect Rose makes his task difficult, especially when she’s the mistake he needs to fix.

When Alek’s past catches up, Rose disappears. Trapped between the living and the dead, on the edge of Hell, Rose is unable to find her way back. Alek and Finn could help her – but are they prepared to risk the consequences?

I spread my fingers on the table in front of me, concentrating on the cold linoleum table, and think what a stupid move it was to ask Finn where he was from. Of course, he’s going to ask about my home too, and then we’ll move onto what we did over the summer…
The music upstairs stops and the familiar sound of Alek’s boots stomp downstairs.
“Hey, Casper…” The grin I heard behind his voice disappears as he walks into the kitchen and sees us. His brown eyes narrow beneath the dark hair falling across his face. “Who’s this?”
“I’m Finn.” He holds out a hand to shake, a formal gesture I find very strange and one Alek doesn’t accept.
Alek looks at Finn as if he’s something I brought in on the bottom of my shoe. “How did you get in?”
“He’s my guest, Alek.”
“I don’t like your guest.”
Something strange is in the room with us, a tension thickening the air as the two guys regard each other. I gulp down my glass of wine and sigh at the testosterone. Finn and Alek are on the edge of each other’s personal space and stare at each other. Finn’s stance is less aggressive; hopefully one of them is mature enough to back down. Behind Finn, the wok sizzles and spits so I get up to stir the meal. Finn steps to one side, breaking his standoff with Alek.
“I’d better go,” Finn says to me.
“Yeah, good idea.” Alek’s voice is as low as Finn’s, and his features are arranged into an expression threatening enough to make me run. I almost do.
“Finn’s my friend,” I snap, “and you don’t get to tell me who I can bring home.”
“See you tomorrow, maybe?” Finn grabs his jacket and bag, then edges around Alek. They’re almost the same height, although Finn is stockier and for a horrible moment, I think one of them is going to punch the other. Finn lingers for a moment, with an impassive look at Alek, before disappearing down the hallway.
The front door shuts.
After a few moments of catching up with the situation, I move to the kitchen counter and pour another glass of wine, then slam the bottle on the table. “What the fuck Alek?”
“I don’t like him.”
Alek is still in the doorway; he hasn’t moved since he saw me and Finn, but at least the dangerous look on his face left with Finn. He’s staring toward the window, barely registering me. Who does he think he is?
“How dare you, you asshole! He’s my friend.”
“I said, I don’t like him,” he says through gritted teeth.
“Why? Do you know him?
“No.”
“This is my home, too. I invite who I like! Do you have to like everyone who comes into this house? You don’t own it!”
“I got a bad…vibe from him; I don’t want him here.” Alek’s tone is low and imploring.
“Well, I get a bad vibe from you!”
Alek remains in the doorway, and as I attempt to get past him, he stretches an arm across. “Stay away from him.”
“Don’t be such a dickhead.” My fingers itch to push him away, but I don’t want to touch him. “He’s a friend from work who I’m sharing a meal with! So you don’t like him. Tough.”
“Is he the only friend you have at work?”
“No.”
“Who else do you know there?”
I have no answer, because over the last few weeks Finn is the only person I’ve spoken to any longer than polite small talk to work colleagues. “People.”
“He’s the only person who shows any interest in you. Don’t you think that’s strange?” My neck prickles with annoyance. “Think about it, Rose.”
I don’t want to and I’m struck by the realisation he’s never called me by my name before. “No, you’re what’s strange. Excuse me.”
“Your meal…” He gestures toward the stove.
“Move.”
“Don’t go after him.”
“For fuck’s sake…” I mutter and duck under his arm.
Alek steps in my way and I back toward the wall. Out of the two of them, Alek unnerves me the most. He places a hand on the wall, trapping me and anger seethes in my stomach.
“Move!” I growl.
His scent engulfs me, pushing out my need to follow Finn. No, it’s not his scent, something different. Alek’s eyes are fixed on my mouth and although we’re not touching, the physical pull to him is unlike anything I’ve experienced before. Strangely, his face registers the same. I close my eyes; sure, he’s doing this deliberately.
“Move,” I repeat.
Alek’s hair touches my face as he leans toward my ear. “Don’t trust him.”
I pull my head back, so I’m looking at his face, ignoring the same intense energy between us as last time. “And trust who? You? At least he’s nice to me!”
Dropping his hand, Alek steps back. “Oh, I am being nice to you. You have no idea.”

Cover Reveal: Melting Into You by Tracey Alvarez

Available on June 16 2014, the second book in the Due South series.

Melting Into You

Big, sexy men who don’t relate well to kids need not apply…

Kezia Murphy plays her widow card well. When you don’t trust people not to let you down, it’s easier to not get involved—and getting involved with a man who makes her skin sizzle just by looking at him would be una pazzia—crazy! Four years ago while Kezia’s daughter, Zoe, battled leukaemia, a tragic accident stole her husband’s life. Starting over in the little town of Oban where she’s adopted into the close knit community on Stewart Island, Kezia and her daughter are all the family the other needs. Except Zoe yearns for more.

New Zealand’s worst candidate for instant fatherhood…

Ben doesn’t do gooey emotional stuff.  He doesn’t do cosy home and family. And he sure isn’t the big teddy-bear Kezia Murphy, the woman he secretly fantasises about, thinks he is. So when Jade, his surprise eight-year-old daughter arrives on his doorstep, he’s a D-minus student struggling to pass a crash-course in parenting.

They’ll either melt or raze their lives to the ground…

When the sparks of attraction between Kezia and Ben fan into an inferno, Ben doesn’t know how much longer the layers of resistance around his heart can resist melting into the gooey mess he fears. The more he fights it the harder it is to make the choice that will destroy the family he now longs to claim.

EXCERPT

He moved like a much smaller, lighter man. A runner or a gymnast—all coiled power that could switch from casual swagger to lightning-fast action in a heartbeat.

She licked dry lips as he stalked closer, a witty response swallowed by the slow burn kindling low in her body. Both English and Italian deserted her, and she simply drank him in. Too good-looking, too confident—too much of everything that eroded her determination to resist him.

Bracing her spine as he stood alongside her, she waited for the punch line or another double entendre.

But he said nothing.

Just gazed down with a small half smile. Which was another word for a smirk—a baby, you know you’re impressed smirk.

She fanned herself with the edge of the board. Did she need a reminder of why she hated Alpha males? After growing up in a home full of five bull-headed Alpha brothers, no, she did not.

Ben’s arm brushed hers as he moved to let Noah past. Beneath her summery dress, her nipples puckered against her lacy bra cup.

Oh, no! Not again.

Kezia hugged the clipboard to her chest and closed her eyes. Please St. Paula, let the clipboard base be wide enough to cover my boobs.

A soft, rumbling sound next to her—Ben chuckling.

Sweet Mother! Had she spoken aloud? A quick glance confirmed her worst fears unfounded. Ben stared blandly into the crowd, as if he had no idea how much his closeness affected her.

Honestly, she should ask the Patron Saint of Widows for more than boob coverage. She needed strength—brute strength—to resist either the urge to murder the man, or the almost-as-terrifying urge to jump his bones until he begged for mercy.

EXCERPT
“A couple of days ago, I got up and thought ‘fuck this’. So I cut my hair and left.”
Forgetting myself, I reach a hand and touch the short hair above his ear. “You had long
hair?”
My hand slides across Dylan’s face as he turns to look at me, his cheek smooth above his
stubbled jaw. “For the last eight years, yeah. I’ll show you a picture sometime. You might recognise me then.”
“That’s a long time. It must be weird looking in the mirror and not recognising
yourself.”
“I didn’t recognise myself for a long time even before I cut my hair.” He picks at
his food and looks back to the sea.
Despite avoiding talking about each others lives, things slip in. Like this
explanation for the tightly wound Dylan I met a few days ago.
“Maybe I should cut mine, I can recreate myself too. This is the longest my hair’s been
for a few years.”
Dylan strokes my fringe from my face, fingers trailing across my forehead. The touch ignites nerve-endings across my face. “I’m sure you’ll look great whatever you
decide to do with your hair.”
“Grant said girls with short hair don’t look right.”
“Who’s Grant?”
I clamp a hand over my mouth. Real life things. Secrets. “Just some dickhead who used to be my boyfriend.”
“I wouldn’t think you were the kind of girl to date dickheads.”
I huff. “Yeah, some of them slip through the net and I don’t realise until it’s too
late.”
“How can it be too late? You weren’t married, were you?”
I splutter Fanta over my cooling chips. “Hell, no.”
“Then what?”
“Once you fall in love, it’s harder to let go; even with dickheads.”
“But you let go? Is that why you’re here?”
This isn’t fair. He’s poking at what I came to escape from – letting things into our bubble
world. I set the meal onto the sand next to me. “I don’t want to talk about this.”
Dylans scrutiny traces a pattern over my face, leaving a trail of heat. How does he do that?
“Such a shame I’m a dickhead,” he says in a low voice.
“I’m sure you can’t help it. Part of the Y chromosome disability, unfortunately,” I say
lightly.
Reaching out, he brushes salt from my lips. An embarrassing sound escapes my throat as he rubs the rough fingertip along my lips.
“Remember what I said about your sarcastic mouth?” he asks.
Of course, I remember, how am I going to forget? But all I can do is stare back like some
wide-eyed idiot and nod.
He removes his finger and licks the salt off the tip; the move is impossibly sexy and fires
arousal through me.
“I know kissing you is the wrong thing to do to you, but I’m starting to get
obsessed.”
My brain struggles to keep up. “Wrong?” I ask.
“When you look at me the way you do, I love and hate it at the same time. When you don’t
look at me the way I want you to, that’s even worse. Every funny thing you say, every time you blush, even just being in the same room fills me with an urge to kiss you. I don’t understand, because this isn
t what I want.”
“That makes no sense.”
“It doesn’t, does it? But nothing in my life makes sense to me.” He moves the fish
and chips from his lap onto the sand.
Excruciatingly slowly, Dylan leans towards me. My heart somersaults and cheerleads in my chest as his mouth approaches mine.
“So about kissing your sarcastic mouth…?”
The words are spoken millimetres from my lips and as his mouth moves, his lips touch mine. He’s good at this.
“Yes.”
“Yes, you remember, or yes, you’ve changed your mind and want me to kiss you?” Dylan
rubs his cool nose along my cheek towards my ear.

“Sky! Waves!”
I have my back to the ocean and a wave crashes against my legs, destabilising me. I regain my footing and attempt to move before the retreating water sucks my feet into the sand. At that moment a larger wave wipes me completely, dragging my body underwater. I panic at the confusion of being pushed and pulled out of my control, seawater swirling hair into my face and the bubbles rushing into my ears. The shell remains tightly gripped in my hand.
As water draws away, I push my head free. Dylan stands on the edge of the shore, water lapping his ankles, laughing. I spit out sea water and stagger to my feet. The weight of the damp hoodie threatens to pull me down again as I push hair from my eyes.
“That was fucking funny! You should see your face!” He wades towards me, arm outstretched to help.
Attempting to keep my footing, I lunge at him and slap his hard chest with both palms. “It was not! Screw you!” Dylan catches my arms as I make contact, and pulls me towards him.
Scrutinizing my face briefly, Dylan takes my cheeks in his broad palms and crushes his lips against mine. I gasp again, but it’s not the sea snatching my breath this time. A new wave sways us, and Dylan holds my face tightly, his own footing steady as his mouth claims mine. A small voice in my head asks what the hell I’m doing but I ignore it – Dylan overwhelms all common sense the moment I have any physical contact with him. Losing myself in his mint-flavoured kiss, in the slide of his cool tongue, I yield to the power he holds over me. Dylan curls his fingers into my wet hair and pulls me closer; I respond with a deep kiss, tracing fingers across his stubbled cheek.
Fierce or gentle, his kisses mould my soul to his as perfectly as his body shapes with mine, as if we’re in a place created by our coming together. Kissing Dylan last night pulled me into his orbit, and when I see stars again, I swear his kisses will always take me to the edge of his galaxy. If Dylan can remove me from reality with just this, god knows what anything else he’s skilful at would do to me. The thought of us skin on skin, united through more than a kiss, lights a fire deep inside that would take more than the cold Cornish sea to extinguish.
Dylan loosens his grip on my hair and slides his hands across my damp back. He closes the final gap between us as our bodies meet, and I wish the rain-soaked clothes weren’t in the way. “I have never met anyone so…” He grasps for a word then gives up and rests his forehead on mine. “I feel as if I’ve waited my whole life to meet you and then suddenly you’re here.”
For a moment I consider whether he’s teasing me again, but I guess I’m very different to the people in his real life. “I can honestly say I’ve never met anyone like you, Dylan Morgan.”
He wipes water from my cheek with cool, damp fingers. “No-one’s met Dylan Morgan apart from you. Not for a lot of years, anyway.”
I stare at the truth reflected in his pale blue eyes, unable to believe any of this is reality. His grip on my back loosens, and I step back. Rain drips down his face, soaking through his T-shirt and clinging to his body in a way that does nothing to help my mounting desire to get my hands on him.
A subject change is needed rapidly, before I begin drooling.
Lisa is an author of new adult romance and writes both paranormal and contemporary, often with a side of snark. In between running a business, looking after her family and writing, Lisa sometimes finds spare time to do other things. This often involves swapping her book worlds for gaming worlds. She even leaves the house occasionally. Lisa loves all things from the Whedonverse and preferred vampires before they sparkled.
Lisa has four books published: the ‘Butterfly Days’ series, and two in her urban fantasy series Soul Ties. She is currently working on a new contemporary romance series Blue Phoenix and the first book, Summer Sky is due for release in April. Lisa is originally from the UK but moved to Australia in 2001 and now lives in Perth in Western Australia with her husband, three children and dog.

SYNOPSIS

Terrorists have invaded Sydney, and Allison King barely escapes her brother’s wedding reception alive. She and her siblings flee, but their parents are killed by firing squad.

Now Ali’s on the run and terrified. While searching for other survivors, she is captured by the General who leads the invasion. He’s smitten by Ali, and when she refuses to submit to his whims, he brands her for death. In a wild act of defiance, she snatches the branding rod and sears the mark onto his face. Marking not only him but also sealing her fate. Ali manages to escape and flees into the bush once more where she finds a group in hiding. Even with the scars left by the General, Ali learns to love and falls in love with the young man who found her—Damien Rogers.

But the General is hunting her. When he discovers their location, and finds her with another man—Damien—his wrath is kindled and his obsession is inflamed. Ali must put herself on the line or the General could kill her family, those who help her, and most significantly, the man she loves.

From Australia With Love Blog Hop: Katie Teller

from australia with love banner-3

As part of the From Australia With Love Blog Hop, I’d like to welcome to Katie Teller. Check out her guest post and find out more about Katie and her books below.

What I Miss Most About Australia

I am Australian, 110%. I love sports, especially football… men in short shorts, yeah. Sold. I love Milo, Tim Tams, Pavlova and Lamingtons. I grew up in “the bush,” playing capture the flag and laughing at my sister for falling into a creek bed. I love the beach, the sand the tingling sensation of sunburn coming on, how my hair turns blonder over summer because of too much swimming…

As you can tell I can go on and on. Living in the USA, there are times when I find people just don’t get it. Which is ironic to me considering how patriotic people here can be. I get, “How did you survive the snakes and spiders?” I shrug and say, “The same way you do, except with a little less screaming.”

But I miss home terribly. Australia will always be my home. There are times when I get so home sick I just close myself off from the world and pretend I’m back, smelling the eucalyptus fresh scent in the air, listening to the cicadas drone. My heart lies in my country, my home.

I think that’s why my novel end up being set in Australia. While I write I’m back, living in the place I love. Where there are trees. Humidity. (I live in Arizona) Where there are faces I’ve always known, places I’ll never forget.
