Cover Reveal: Collaboration by Michelle Lynn featuring Navaeh Lee

This is not your typical rock star romance. For one, the “rock star” is a rapper. And not just any rapper. Trace is the hottest ticket in the music industry right now, regardless of which definition of ‘hot’ you choose.

Taryn Starr is not the girl-next-door who unknowingly meets a celebrity. Known as “America’s Sweetheart,” the reigning country music princess and world-renowned superstar knows exactly who Trace is…or does she?

Their worlds collide when the musicians whose paths were never destined to cross are forced by their joint record label to collaborate on a song. The sparks fly and ignite a fire that blazes hotter with every minute they spend together—for better or worse. One thing’s for certain, the two media magnets can’t deny their explosive chemistry, but will life in the spotlight ultimately bring Trace and Taryn together or force them apart?

***This contemporary romance new adult novel is for mature audiences. The language alone would make a sailor blush (the guy’s a rapper, remember?) so 18+ only, please.

Michelle moved around the Midwest most of her life, transferring from
school to school before settling down in the outskirts of Chicago ten years
ago, where she now resides with her husband and two kids. She developed a love
of reading at a young age, which helped lay the foundation for her passion to
write. With the encouragement of her family, she finally sat down and wrote one
of the many stories that have been floating around in her head. When she isn’t
reading or writing, she can be found playing with her kids, talking to her mom
on the phone, or hanging out with her family and friends. But after chasing
around twin preschoolers all day, she always cherishes her relaxation time
after putting the kids to bed.

Nevaeh Lee

Nevaeh’s first exposure to writing began in a middle school creative
writing class. She was reprimanded for composing a politically incorrect story
and forced to re-write about a “safer” topic. Being the writing rebel that she
is, Nevaeh always likes to push the envelope a bit and never re-writes, unless her editor insists on it.

When she’s not writing, Nevaeh is a freelance book editor ;).  And though she spends a good chunk of her time
reading, writing, and editing, she can also be found hanging out with her
family and taking road trips, exploring the area around wherever she happens to
be living at the time. Even though “home” will always be Texas, she has lived
in several different states and countries, but currently resides in the DC
metro area.

I’ve always been an avid reader and occasional writer, but only ever for my own eyes!  Then, last year, I read my first New Adult novel – and I was hooked.  After consuming a vast e-pile of NA, the burning need to write my own was overwhelming.  And so I started…

Fitting in writing around a demanding job and a wonderfully supportive husband has been, umm, interesting at times but the whole process has been a fantastic experience.  I have been blown away by the friendliness and support shown by the readers, writers and bloggers who make up the NA and Indie communities; online with them is one of my favourite places to hang out!

I have already started the follow-up novel to Curve, Heart, which follows Neve as she starts at university.

EXTRACT:

After dropping down to plant a soft kiss on my forehead, he sat back on his knees. “I can’t take any more tonight, Cass.”  As much as I wanted to continue, I didn’t want to push him: partly out of fear, as this was so much further than I had expected to be three days into a relationship; partly because I knew how embarrassingly close I was to completely letting go at that moment.

“OK. I guess I’ll go to bed then.” I tried not to sound too disappointed.

“Cass, I want to carry on more than anything right now but we would end up regretting it.  Trust me, you, and that, is all I’m going to be thinking about for hours.”

“OK.”

“Don’t just say OK, Cass.  Tell me what you’re thinking.”

“Why? I agree.  We should stop.”  I think frustration was making me stroppy.

“Really?  Because stopping then took every ounce of self-control I have and, if you had done the same to me, I would be doing whatever it took to change your mind.”  Maybe it was frustration that was pushing Flynn as well.

“What do you want me to say, Flynn?  That I am so turned on right now I am struggling to even string a sentence together?  That, even though we probably would regret it, I don’t want to stop?  That there is no way I’m going to be able to sleep in your bed tonight without replaying every second of that?  I’ve never so much as kissed a boy before and you have got me ready to give you everything so quickly – it’s scary how much I want you.  So sorry if it’s not the response you were after.  I’m doing the best I can.”  Although we were talking in whispers, there was an angry edge to my voice.

“You’re amazing, Cass.  And that’s so what I needed to hear.  I haven’t felt like this before either and I need to know that you feel the same.  I don’t want to push you but I don’t want to be the one making all of the decisions either.” He took my face in his hands and kissed me.  “And, yes I’ve changed the sheets, but you should know that I lay in that bed last night thinking of you…”  The raised eyebrow that accompanied this remark was an obvious sign that he expected me to respond in disgust.

“Yeah, well that will probably be me tonight so, if I were you, I’d make sure to change them again tomorrow!”  I returned the eyebrow raise, blew him a kiss and left him laughing.

“’Night, Cass.”

Night, Flynn.

EXTRACT:

When I arrived at Neve’s house for her parents’ party, I felt strangely nervous.  This would be the first time I had seen Flynn since he dropped me off and, other than a few flirty texts, we hadn’t had any other contact.

Getting ready at home, I had felt like I was preparing for a date with him, which was absurd as I knew he was going out for the evening with Jake.  The deep red top I had bought on impulse when I went shopping with Neve looked great with my black jeans.  I had managed to twist my hair into beach waves and, other than opting for a little more eyeliner than usual, I kept my make-up light. My new-found confidence added an invisible glow which made me focus on what I liked when I looked in the mirror, rather than concentrating on the bits I wanted to change.

Neve had also made an effort: her new jeans were topped off with a glittery off-one-shoulder top and she had a plait snaking across her hairline before it fell into loose curls.  She looked like she should be on the pages of a magazine, but instead was opening the door and squealing my name.  After dropping my overnight bag in her room, we went to the kitchen where there was a makeshift bar and array of snacks on the breakfast bar.  We perched on a couple of the stools, knowing that most of the people in the lounge would be too old to be that interesting.  The loud music we could hear in there was certainly from way before our time.

Before we had finished our first drink, a hand brushed against my lower back and I felt that familiar tingle start.  I turned my head just as Flynn was lowering his to kiss the back of my neck and our heads bumped into one another.  Rubbing his forehead, Flynn opted for a smile instead.

“Hi.”  I felt strangely shy and very conscious of Neve sat across from me.

“Hi, Cass.  Long time, no see.” Flynn was wearing a white tee shirt under a black jacket, along with his usual jeans and boots. His hair was casually messed into the sort of style favoured by bands like One Direction.  I knew he would be offended by the comparison but he looked fantastic to me.  He opened a bottle of beer and started drinking.  I couldn’t pull my eyes away from the way his mouth curled around the top of the bottle, thinking of how wonderful his mouth felt on mine.  I almost lost it when his tongue peeped out to lick a droplet from his lip after he had lowered the bottle.  Obsessed, moi?

“Where are you going tonight?” Neve filled the silence, possibly sensing that I had lost the ability to speak.

“A group of us have got tickets for the Tree House.  There’s a couple of decent bands playing and it includes an open bar,” he said, checking the time on his phone.  “I better get going.  I’ve got to be at Jake’s in ten minutes.”  He took another swig, put the bottle down, gave us a smile and, after popping in to say goodbye to his parents, left.

No kiss, no hug, nothing.  I tried not to let Neve see that I was disappointed by his departure and picked up my drink to give myself something to focus on.

“I bet he’ll be wasted tonight.  Wonder if he will even make it back from Jake’s?” I murmured agreement but Neve’s comment just made me feel even more deflated.  As I took a long gulp of my drink, I felt my phone vibrate in my back pocket.

Flynn: You look hot tonight 😉

Me: Thanks.  You left quick 

Flynn: Had to leave or else I would have dragged you upstairs and done naughty things to you 😉

Me: *doesn’t know what to say* x

Flynn: Just say yes 😉

Me: lol Are you coming back home tonight?

Flynn: Yes. Not until late though.  Will you be up? x

Me: Text me when you get in and we’ll see x

Flynn: OK. Don’t get too drunk! x

Me: You too! xx
