When Will The Whole Blue Phoenix Series Be Available on iBooks, Nook and Kobo?

FB banner July 5th

Recently, a lot of new readers downloaded Summer Sky and continued with Falling Sky. A huge thank you to everybody who did. Dylan and Sky have a lot of love from you all and I appreciate that <3

Over the last week, I’ve been asked a few times when will Unplugged, Rising and Reverb will be available on iBooks, Nook and Kobo. If I could list them on those retailers, I would do so in a heartbeat but unfortunately I can’t. I signed up to Kindle Unlimited for the Blue Phoenix series which means they’re exclusive to Amazon until October. Luckily, Falling Sky is out of the program and available now.

The most up-to-date information comes via my newsletter and social media but I will definitely post here too once Liam, Jem and Bryn’s stories are available.

And if you missed Falling Sky (Blue Phoenix #2) these are the links:

From the bestselling Blue Phoenix rock star romance series, Forever Sky is the conclusion to Dylan and Sky’s story and the final book in the series.

Sky and Dylan have found their forever, wrapped in a world away from rock star Dylan’s fame. For Sky, a future with Dylan is a life with the man who closed the book on his past for a future with her.

The deeper into her new life Sky goes, the harder she finds dealing with the public scrutiny and holding onto who she is. When a third person enters her new life with Dylan, Sky also struggles to meet the expectations she has of herself.

Dylan believes in fairytale endings and his unwavering love for Sky, and he will fight anything that threatens their life together. But the world can throw curveballs that even the strongest couple would struggle to dodge.

Forever Sky is a look at Dylan and Sky’s life in the months after Falling Sky, and the challenges fame and money can’t protect them from. Dylan and Sky fought to be together and now they need to fight for their happy ever after.

The books contains spoilers for the other books in the series and must be read after Summer Sky and Falling Sky.

Blue Phoenix: Interview with Dylan and Sky

To celebrate the May 2015 sale on Sky and Dylan’s books in the series, I’ve located an unpublished interview from last year.

  1. Sky, Dylan what were your first impressions of each other?

Sky (smiles at Dylan): His first impression on me was a dent in my car, so not good.

Dylan: She accused me of being a dickhead driving a penis extension. People don’t talk to me like that normally so I wasn’t impressed.

Sky: What you mean is I didn’t fall at your feet when you gave me your best smouldering look.

Dylan: I thought Sky was funny – amongst other things – and a bit weird because she drove off like I was mass-murderer or something.

Sky: No, just an underwear-thief…

  1. One thing you love/hate about each other.

Sky: Dylan hangs onto the past too much and he’s a lot more sensitive than people think so it messes with his head. He needs to let go and move on. I also hate how he tries to run away from his problems. What I love? He’s an amazing, strong person who shows me he loves me every day. Plus…well, look at him!

Dylan: I love and hate her straight-talking, she has one sarcastic mouth. But, she loves me for everything I am and I couldn’t imagine a life without her in it. Sky’s such a strong person and she’s naturally gorgeous and the opposite of all the false people that have filled my life in recent years.

  1. Dylan, what’s the worst thing that’s happened in your life? What did you learn from it?

Dylan: The worst? My family disowning me a couple of years after Blue Phoenix got big. That’s the point I lost the old Dylan Morgan and turned into the cliché, because the people I loved didn’t think he existed anymore. Sky made me go back to St Davids and reconnect with the past and I learnt the only Dylan Morgan that exists is the one I want to. There’re also things I’ve done that I’m not proud of and they have taken a lot of time to deal with.

  1. The real world was always going to interfere in your fantasy world. Do you often wish you could turn back the clock?

Dylan: I wish we’d had longer together before Sky found out who the other Dylan Morgan was, because that was the most freedom I’d felt in years.

Sky: But it doesn’t matter now, because we have a lifetime together and we create our own world between his and mine.

  1. Sky, your first impression of Jem Jones, Blue Phoenix’s lead guitarist?

Sky: The very first time? He scared me. Jem was high and agressive so I got away from him as quickly as I could. Our second meeting wasn’t much better. I understand him more now, Jem and Dylan aren’t that different underneath they just deal with things differently.

6. Dylan talk us through your feelings when Sky discovered your dark secret.

Dylan: It’s not something we really talk about now because it fucked things up so badly. I couldn’t cope with her finding out so I ran and buried myself back into my old lifestyle. It didn’t work and Sky’s taught me I can’t run from shit and expect it to disappear, because it never does.

  1. How would you describe fame Dylan and its price on your life?

Dylan: Double-edged sword. I got what I wanted – to live my life performing and creating plus getting paid a lot for it. In the early days, I didn’t care, loved every minute but after a while it becomes hard when the whole world thinks they own a piece of you. I didn’t know who I was anymore.

  1. Sky, Dylan what are you most afraid of?

Sky: For us? Nothing, really. I do worry what will happen when Blue Phoenix start touring again and how Dylan will cope being back under the spotlight (literally). I’m happy with life.

Dylan: Losing Sky. Which is why I’ve put all the fame bullshit behind me and I’m focusing on her and the future.

  1. How do you feel about your life right now? What, if anything, would you like to change?

Sky: If you’d told me this would be my life a couple of years ago, I’d have laughed at you.

Dylan: Yeah, you didn’t even like Blue Phoenix and now look at you.

Sky: The one thing I’d change is the lack of privacy. I can’t wait until Dylan is a boring, has-been.

Dylan: Yep, I’ll live by the sea, with my dribbling wife asleep on the sofa.

Sky: Very funny.

Dylan: I’m with Sky on this, I hate the lack of privacy. Not sure I want to be a has-been though.

10. Do you think your experiences both together and apart have made you better people? A stronger couple?

Dylan: I wouldn’t have survived if I hadn’t met Sky, I know that sounds dramatic but things were going downhill and fast. That’s where the strength we share comes in. I describe her as the song I never knew I could write, and her love the music I always wanted to hear.

Sky: I wasn’t in a good place when I met Dylan and didn’t want to trust anyone again. I couldn’t believe someone could fall in love so quickly. But he taught me that love isn’t something you find in the places you look hardest, but love is something that finds you. A part of Dylan lives in the centre of who I am and I think that’s what kept us together when things were at their darkest.

 11. One thing about yourselves that nobody else knows

Sky: Dylan is an avid shell-collector. (laughs)

Dylan: Sky got a tattoo.

Summer Sky and My Year With Blue Phoenix

4paperback bannerThis year I achieved what I have dreamed of my whole life and never thought would happen. I made an income from writing books.

SummerSky.Ebook.v2Twelve months ago, I published Summer Sky, my first indie book and one I’d written over a few months in mid/late 2013.

This became the first book in a rock romance series full of characters who’ve hijacked my life since. Summer Sky was originally intended as a standalone. As I came towards writing the end of the book, I realised I was facing a cliffhanger and this worried me. I’d heard bad things about readers’ reactions to cliffs but then I decided not many people would read my book so didn’t worry too much. I started writing the next book straight away, so I could publish as soon as possible and not leave readers hanging if people did read.

I’ve had books published by a small press before but never had much success. I was hoping to cover costs in my experiment at being an indie so when I hit ‘publish’ I wasn’t expecting much.

I released at 99c. Summer Sky was 99c for over a month. Other indie authors get growly at 99c releases but it did the job I needed: I got visibility. Summer Sky hovered around the #1000 mark on US Amazon for a few months and found its way onto category bestseller lists. Maybe I lost money, but I gained readers. My marketing skills were dodgy but I did what seemed right to me.

Stunned, I watched the Amazon sales tick. Why were people buying my book when nobody bought the ones published by a small press? A couple of bigger blogs asked to review and I realised people were talking about Dylan and Sky. Readers either loved or hated my sarcastic, sassy heroine who refused to fall at the rock star’s feet, but mostly loved the ripped, bacon-cooking, tortured Dylan. Readers liked my book. They emailed me. Friended me on Facebook. Joined my readers group.

I never hit Amazon top #100 but any ranking was huge to me. I covered the costs of my editing and cover design within weeks with little advertising and everything seemed too good to be true. Falling Sky had an enthusiastic response too. I had no clue about the popularity of rock star romance when I began writing. Dylan was almost an actor until I indulged my love for rock stars! Discovering their popularity, I planned the other characters. I have a long-winded story why he is called Dylan and why the band are Welsh which I’ll share if you’re interested. I lived in Wales for three years as a child but that’s where my affinity ends. Apart from my hot Welsh rockers.

Liam and Cerys’s story, Unplugged, came next in September, then Jem and Ruby’s very difficult story, Rising, in December. I love Rising the most because I turned a lot of Jem haters into Team Jem. As an author, this felt like a huge achievement. My characters had dimension and readers could follow his journey from the ‘villain’ in Summer Sky and see why and who he was.

Bryn. Ah, Bryn. For months I’ve had emails and messages with questions about and love for the mountain sized drummer (check his name meaning!) and his laid-back humour. A year ago, he was a minor character in a book I thought nobody would buy. Now his highly anticipated story is Reverb, the 6th book in the series due for release later this month.

The year has been hills and troughs, of course. Apart from the writer-doubt ups and downs, and my ongoing health issues, Kindle Unlimited hit me the same as other authors. My books were Kindle Exclusive for months, another no-no from some indies but again, worked for me. Sales crashed in mid/late 2014.

Late December, I bit the bullet and gave away the first book in the series free after reading what a great marketing tool this was. Best move ever. I had 3 other books in the series by then and my sales increased fourfold. A new wave of readers discovered my books. This won’t last forever but I would highly recommend anybody with 3 or more books in a series to try it with some targeted advertising to help!

This year I have learned the following things I suck at:

Networking. MAJORLY. I’m an introvert who’s recently admitted this goes as far as social anxiety. I’m painfully aware this screws up my attempts at online relationships with other authors for a number of reasons. I was the kid at high school who hung at the back, doing my own thing so being ‘part’ of something is tricky for me. No excuses. I need to change this. Those authors who do know me, know I will do anything I can to help other authors. I want to see everybody selling books!

Following trends: because I don’t want to. I’m lucky the book I wanted to write happened to match one. I have readers now who like ‘Lisa Swallow’ books and I will continue to write romance stories I love.

Work/Life balance: I admit this is messed up currently and needs fixing. Now Reverb is written I am stepping back and following a more lenient schedule.

Marketing: Much to learn, although I must be doing some of it right

So what’s the bottom line?

I earned in the four figures bracket each month for the first few months then mid year there was a huge drop. This year I’m back in four figures each month, slightly higher (so far, I don’t count on ‘forever’).  I wish I was more business savvy and could share some proper figures, I’ll have some ready for tax in a couple of months so will share then if it’s any help to people. These figures aren’t huge overall but a hell of a lot more than I imagined and I know I’m lucky. I’m also aware how unpredictable and volatile this crazy industry is so I won’t take this for granted. My focus: build a back list because this is where the money is coming from!

The Thank You part:

First, my professional recommendations:

Najla, my cover designer, at Najla Qamber Designs
Becky and Peggy, my editors at Hot Tree Editing

Click on the links if you want professional, friendly service.

Lots of bloggers!!! So many. I know I’m not big at chatting with all of you on Facebook but every post share etc means a lot and I try to thank you when I see. In particular, Rose from FMR has organised most of my blitzes for the books and also helped me out in between, her support has been amazing. Thank you.

My readers, especially those who joined my readers group on Facebook. Thank you for joining my crazy Blue Phoenix world and loving my books and characters enough that I got to write about all of the band. When I receive emails and messages from readers who’ve sat up all night reading my books, that’s a massive compliment! In fact, hearing from readers at all still feels strange but I love that people take time to chat and leave reviews etc

The love and support of my family, which goes without saying.

Louise who has been with Blue Phoenix from day 1 when I posted chapter one on Wattpad. Her encouragement pushed me to finish. She’s been there all along with support and advice and has taken on the role of PA for me. Most of all, I am very lucky to have made such a good friend.

I’m not a famous author, or reached any major bestseller lists but I’m thrilled by what I’ve achieved in this last year. I am happy to be an indie and glad I took the risk. I hope none of this comes across as bragging, I just wanted to reflect on my year. If anybody wants to ask questions or chat about anything, I’d love to hear from you and if I can help out, I will.

What next for Blue Phoenix?

Reverb will be released April 29th

As yet untitled book about Will from Ruby Riot is planned for July.

Forever Sky, the final Dylan and Sky book, is scheduled for October.

Making Mayhem, the newsletter serial about Jax from Ruby Riot continues through the year and will be edited and published late 2015/early 2016.

After that? I’m not sure. I’ll find it hard to let them go.

So, looks like 2015 is another year with Blue Phoenix, Ruby Riot and the strong women who are part of their lives.

If you’ve made it this far, thanks for reading!

And sorry about the dodgy editing.

Summer-Sky

Book title: Summer Sky by Lisa Swallow
Series: Blue Phoenix #1
Genre: Contemporary romance

SYNOPSIS

Sky changed her life for a man once, and she has no intention of doing it again – even if he is a six foot, tattooed rock god who makes a mean bacon sandwich.

Sky Davis is fed up of boyfriend Grant taking her for granted and when she comes home to find him wearing a girl, Sky suspects the relationship is over. She takes an unscheduled holiday and leaves the life (and guy) she hates behind.

Rock star Dylan Morgan is struggling with fame and infamy, sick of his life being controlled by other people. Dylan cuts his hair and walks away from his role as lead singer of Blue Phoenix, leaving chaos and speculation behind.

Outside the English seaside town of Broadbeach their cars and worlds collide.

Sky decides Dylan is an arrogant guy with too many tattoos, and Dylan is amused by the smart-mouthed girl with no idea who he is. Dylan and Sky soon discover they’ve travelled to Broadbeach for the same reason – to escape from reality back to a place with happy childhood memories.

Losing themselves in a world where they know nothing about each other, Sky and Dylan begin a summer romance that soon heats up their rainy English summer.

Fantasies can’t last forever and when reality crashes the party, Sky isn’t sure she wants to be more than his ‘summer Sky’ but Dylan doesn’t want to let her go.

Returning to the real world and public scrutiny isn’t their only problem. Blue Phoenix bass player, Jem Jones, has a reason for wanting Sky out of Dylan’s life, and is determined to come between them. Some things won’t stay hidden, even when they’re paid to ‘go away’.

Summer Sky is a quirky romance where occasionally more than the bacon sizzles. This is the first in the new ‘Blue Phoenix’ series of contemporary rock star romances.

Blue Phoenix Series Updates (And More!)

I’m not a good blogger. My time management skills are under duress since the release of Summer Sky, the first Blue Phoenix book, and getting worse.

I’m very lucky to have found somebody to help me out with organising myself (I’m looking at you Lou from Seraphim Book Reviews) and after a chat to her I’ve decided an attempt at a “weekly summary” may be the way to go. Facebook hides everything, my newsletters are occasional (I don’t want to spam your inbox) and Twitter… well, continues to baffle me. So here we go…

BLUE PHOENIX SERIES

june10explainedplace Falling Sky (Blue Phoenix #2) is due for release on June 10th. This is the conclusion of Dylan and Sky’s story from Summer Sky (Blue Phoenix #1). They will appear in future books but this one focuses on their relationship. A large part of this takes part in the Blue Phoenix world, so you will find events that have a big effect on other band members.

There is the possibility of an early release and a lower release price for the first day. I’m still firming this up but newsletter subscribers will be the first to hear. Subscription link at the bottom of the post!

I’ve also started working on Rising (Blue Phoenix #3) which is Jem’s book and (strangely) the Christmas novella which I can’t say much about until Falling Sky is released!

I also want to say I am overwhelmed by the response to Summer Sky. As this was my first “indie published” book everything was down to me but I loved the control I had. This was a risk but the support of my family in pursuing this dream made things easier. I’m incredibly happy (understatement) that so many people loved Dylan and Sky’s story (especially those who fell in love with Dylan…mine! hands off!!) I’m even happier to be able to write the rest of the Blue Phoenix guys’ stories! So a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who has bought, read and loved Summer Sky.

OTHER WORKS IN PROGRESS

rosetext2titleI also write paranormal romance and urban fantasy books. Last year, I wrote the majority of a book titled Between. I’ve decided to finish and publish this book and hope to release in August this year. You won’t find your typical set of paranormal characters in this book… I always like to surprise! This book is a mash-up of several genres – paranormal romance, gothic horror, new adult and will span into a series. Heck, if I’m going to build a new and complicated world outside of the paranormal ‘norm’, I need more than one book out of it! So, think Being Human, Supernatural etc with some intense relationships thrown in. It will keep you guessing!

OTHER NEWS

I’ve also set up a street team. A what?? some of you might ask! Check out this link and if you’d like to join in I’d be honoured to have your help! Some lovely ladies already help spread the word about my books and every day I’m amazed at the support I have.

Interview with Dylan Morgan and Jem Jones from the band Blue Phoenix

Dylan Morgan sits in the chair opposite, clearly not wanting to be here. Once over, interviewing Dylan would have led to a mix of nerves and excitement, his reputation back then suggested the possibility of more than an interview for anyone who caught his eye. This Dylan is guarded, and I’ve been instructed not to ask too much about the last few months. Guitarist Jem Jones is with us too, hidden behind dark sunglasses, glass of whiskey in his hand. The tension between the two is thick in the room. Wish me luck…

Me – Thanks for agreeing to the interview. How are things going with the new album? Should we expect more of the same from Blue Phoenix or is this a different direction?

Jem – We’ve had a delay (looks at Dylan) but we’re on track to release around August. Yeah, some more of the same but some new sounds too. We had some guest vocals from Danni-K and a new producer so I don’t think anyone will be disappointed.

Me – So kicking off another tour next month? It’s been over a year since you last toured. Excited?

Dylan – Big tours are tough. We spent three years solid touring and yeah, I don’t enjoy it as much as I did. But necessary evil I guess *laughs*

Jem – I see it as why we’re musicians – to perform and connect with as many fans as we can.

Dylan – Yeah, I get that Jem but we don’t all get the same things out of touring as you do.

Jem – Hope you can make it this time…Not planning any more vacations?

Me – I sense a bit of the famous Dylan and Jem tension around. Having issues around the musical direction of the album?

Jem – We just got issues *laughs* but what fun would we be without them?

Me – So, Dylan. A new look with the short hair. What made you go for an image change? A lot of your fans were shocked!

Dylan – I’ve had long hair since I was sixteen and didn’t recognise myself anymore. I figured a change might help.

Me – We all worried about you last month when you disappeared. Everything okay now?

Dylan – I needed time out.

Jem – According to Twitter you died about ten times in that week *laughs*

Me – And the world still wants to know about the girl who stole your heart while you were away.

Jem – *snorts*

Dylan – Didn’t you get told I’m not talking about my personal life? She’s nothing to do with the band or the music.

Me – We saw you talking about her on Twitter and we’ve seen the pictures. The world wants to know if she’s still in your life?

Dylan stands and walks to the window, back to me and I realise I’ve pushed things too far. But I had to ask, I’d be in trouble if I didn’t! The whole world wants to know who captured the unattainable Dylan Morgan and where she is now.

Me – My apologies, I think the fans just want to know if Dylan Morgan is still on the market. We already lost Liam to Honey.

Jem – I’m still around if you’re looking, sweetheart. For now. I don’t think this Sky chick wants anything to do with him. Why would she once she realises who the real Dylan Morgan is?

Dylan swears at Jem under his breath, glances at me then storms from the room bringing the interview to an abrupt end.

“Sky! Waves!”
I have my back to the ocean and a wave crashes against my legs, destabilising me. I regain my footing and attempt to move before the retreating water sucks my feet into the sand. At that moment a larger wave wipes me completely, dragging my body underwater. I panic at the confusion of being pushed and pulled out of my control, seawater swirling hair into my face and the bubbles rushing into my ears. The shell remains tightly gripped in my hand.
As water draws away, I push my head free. Dylan stands on the edge of the shore, water lapping his ankles, laughing. I spit out sea water and stagger to my feet. The weight of the damp hoodie threatens to pull me down again as I push hair from my eyes.
“That was fucking funny! You should see your face!” He wades towards me, arm outstretched to help.
Attempting to keep my footing, I lunge at him and slap his hard chest with both palms. “It was not! Screw you!” Dylan catches my arms as I make contact, and pulls me towards him.
Scrutinizing my face briefly, Dylan takes my cheeks in his broad palms and crushes his lips against mine. I gasp again, but it’s not the sea snatching my breath this time. A new wave sways us, and Dylan holds my face tightly, his own footing steady as his mouth claims mine. A small voice in my head asks what the hell I’m doing but I ignore it – Dylan overwhelms all common sense the moment I have any physical contact with him. Losing myself in his mint-flavoured kiss, in the slide of his cool tongue, I yield to the power he holds over me. Dylan curls his fingers into my wet hair and pulls me closer; I respond with a deep kiss, tracing fingers across his stubbled cheek.
Fierce or gentle, his kisses mould my soul to his as perfectly as his body shapes with mine, as if we’re in a place created by our coming together. Kissing Dylan last night pulled me into his orbit, and when I see stars again, I swear his kisses will always take me to the edge of his galaxy. If Dylan can remove me from reality with just this, god knows what anything else he’s skilful at would do to me. The thought of us skin on skin, united through more than a kiss, lights a fire deep inside that would take more than the cold Cornish sea to extinguish.
Dylan loosens his grip on my hair and slides his hands across my damp back. He closes the final gap between us as our bodies meet, and I wish the rain-soaked clothes weren’t in the way. “I have never met anyone so…” He grasps for a word then gives up and rests his forehead on mine. “I feel as if I’ve waited my whole life to meet you and then suddenly you’re here.”
For a moment I consider whether he’s teasing me again, but I guess I’m very different to the people in his real life. “I can honestly say I’ve never met anyone like you, Dylan Morgan.”
He wipes water from my cheek with cool, damp fingers. “No-one’s met Dylan Morgan apart from you. Not for a lot of years, anyway.”
I stare at the truth reflected in his pale blue eyes, unable to believe any of this is reality. His grip on my back loosens, and I step back. Rain drips down his face, soaking through his T-shirt and clinging to his body in a way that does nothing to help my mounting desire to get my hands on him.
A subject change is needed rapidly, before I begin drooling.
Lisa is an author of new adult romance and writes both paranormal and contemporary, often with a side of snark. In between running a business, looking after her family and writing, Lisa sometimes finds spare time to do other things. This often involves swapping her book worlds for gaming worlds. She even leaves the house occasionally. Lisa loves all things from the Whedonverse and preferred vampires before they sparkled.
Lisa has four books published: the ‘Butterfly Days’ series, and two in her urban fantasy series Soul Ties. She is currently working on a new contemporary romance series Blue Phoenix and the first book, Summer Sky is due for release in April. Lisa is originally from the UK but moved to Australia in 2001 and now lives in Perth in Western Australia with her husband, three children and dog.
